Your Summertime Pedicure Primer
Summer is here ladies–so let’s “jump in” with both feet! And it’s time for a change. Well, actually three changes. First is the switch in my closet from long sleeve fare, to all things linen, short sleeved, colorful and cool. Second is relegating my boots and close-toed shoes to the back of closet to be replaced “front and center” with colorful sandals and all things strappy. And the third, and most important change, is to get my feet ready for their summer debut. Drum roll please. How I have missed lingering in that overstuffed chair, sipping prosecco and chatting about my summer travel and must visit new restaurant openings. Selecting the color of nail polish is my favorite task and the most important decision of the day. It is one hour of sheer fun.
There are over 40 nail salons is the Newport Beach area there are lots of options.
In this blog article I am showcasing a few of the newer salons and places to consider to “get your shine on”.
Concierge Spa of Newport Beach ( also know as Newport Beach Nails) is located on Old Newport Blvd. –just up the hill from A Market. It is on the third floor of a swanky new modern building with a lovely patio outside. It is finished with beautiful expansive stations, beautiful wood flooring and cabinetry, chandeliers and contemporary decor. The Spa is in the process of adding a lovely patio with Cabanas for outdoor manicures, pedicures and will soon follow with massage options as well.
This is probably the most unique nail spa I have ever been to. They take Med-Spa to a whole new level. There is a professional licensed Doctor of Podiatry on site, and in this case that is Dr. Ivar Roth, who has been here in Newport Beach for many years. He was one of the first in the area to use lasers for toe treatment and he also develops creams and various products for better foot care. Each technician has an advanced certificate as an “Advanced Nail Technician” and no other salon or spa can claim that in this area. This is important in that they have raised the bar on making sure all utensils, products and procedures are used and cleaned in a way to secure a completely sterile environment.
Mary Ann was the technician who took care of me when I was there and she has quite an impressive following. Using many products from the Deborah Lippmann Signature Collection, the Spa offers some fun specials during the week. On Tuesdays and Thursday’s join the Pedi Party offering complete pedicures for $52 vs. $65 all day. This includes: callus treatment, scrub, mask massage and polish. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-6pm they offer a manicure with a complimentary glass of champagne or wine. Gel Manicure is $44 vs. $55 and Regular Manicure is $40 vs. $50. (Reservations are strongly suggested and they can arrange exclusive gatherings as well.)

A new nail salon on Balboa Island is called Nailed It Salon on Marine Avenue. The staff is extremely friendly and they have a spacious salon. The chairs are comfortable with massage remote controls. They use foot pans (vs. spa chairs) which is something I prefer. Guests can select a “plain and simple” pedicure for $25, add a scrub for $10 additional, or the ultimate is $70 and this includes: choice of scrub, cooling gel, mint mask, paraffin, hot stone, callus and extra ten minute massage. GLO Nail Bar is located at the Corona del Mar Plaza and offers an ultra-modern, chic setting. Guests feel like a movie star with the expansive, crisp black and white space and black lacquer chandeliers offer an added sense of elegance. They are well known for their gel manicures, specialty pedicures and nail art. There are a plethora of treatments for the footsies, and here are just a few examples…
For the little ladies… the Princess Pedicure will make little one feel like royalty. Her feet will be soaked in a lavender and rose petal soak. Trim, shape, and a light exfoliate to smooth, then a fun shimmering lotion is then applied followed by nail art. ($23)
For grown up’s, the Green Tea Pedicure includes a fun spa experience for feet with the added benefits of green tea and aloe. The service begins with ones feet getting bathed in an Aloe soak– and then are buffed and callouses removed. Then next is an exfoliating sea salt scrub. A green tea mud is then applied to moisturize, rehydrate, and rejuvenate the skin. The service ends with feet and legs wrapped in a warm and steamy towel and a 15 minute massage. Nails pedicured and polish included. ($78)
Who doesn’t love Champagne? The Bubbly Champagne and Rose Pedicure is a perfect choice. The treatment begins with a soak in warm water and rose petals. Then the feet are exfoliated in a rose-scented salt scrub. Tired feet are then revitalized by tiny bubbles in a golden champagne rinse. Finally, a mixture of rose petals are then gently massaged into the legs and paraffin is also applied –creating the softest skin to the touch and a sense of renewal.
