Newport Beach Fall Recreational Activities

The summer heat is simmering down and it’s the perfect sunny and 75-degree conditions Newport Beach is famous for. Take advantage of the diverse landscape to go for a hike to watch the leaves change colors or spend some quality time with your four-legged friend outdoors. You have plenty of choices to explore trails on land or a plethora of fun aquatic activities!

Walk/Hike

  • Balboa Island: Take a leisurely 2.6-mile stroll around the perimeter of Balboa Island while viewing the charming homes and boats sailing by in the harbor.
  • Pier to Pier: Hit the sand for a 2-mile run between Newport’s two piers, Newport Pier to Balboa Pier.
  • Back Bay: Hike the 10-mile Back Bay loop to catch a glimpse of the fall bird migration and to get stunning views from Castaways Park.
  • Corona del Mar: Take a stroll with beautiful views and sand between your toes from Little Corona to Big Corona.
  • Crystal Cove State Park: Take a short walk along the bluffs that parallel the ocean or for something more intense, hike along the various trails in the canyons across Pacific Coast Highway.

Bike

One of the best places to bike in Newport Beach is Balboa Peninsula with its proximity to various restaurants, views of the harbor, ocean boardwalk and easily marked bike lanes. If you’re feeling adventurous, take the Balboa Ferry across the harbor to explore Balboa Island! Here are some of our favorite bike rental shops right on the Peninsula:

Whale Watching

Each fall, 20,000 gray whales make the 10,000-mile journey from the Bering Sea to Baja Mexico. Watch one of the greatest shows on earth and book your next whale watching tour with the below businesses:

On the Water

Whether you’re on the harbor or in the calm waters of the Back Bay, embrace the sunshine and have a fun time trying stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking. Here are some places to rent your next board or kayak from:
