The Newport Beach City Arts Commission will host a Centennial Celebration, honoring the life, art and civic contributions of California scene painter Joan Irving Brandt, on Saturday, March 5 at the Central Library. The community is invited to view an exhibition of Joan Irving Brandt’s paintings and sculpture at the Central Library and to attend a special program and reception beginning at 2 p.m. in the Central Library Friends Meeting Room, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach.
The program, lecture and panel will be hosted by the exhibition curator Gordon T. McClelland, an author and art curator specializing in California Scene Paintings. E. Gene Crain, a lifelong friend of the Brandt’s and collector of their art, will offer a personal perspective on the artist and her work. The art exhibition will feature an overview of nationally renowned artist Joan Irving Brandt’s watercolors from the collections of Gene and Diane Crain and others. The selection of original Joan Irving Brandt watercolors will be on display in the Central Library February 1-March 31. The event is presented by the Newport Beach City Arts Commission and funded through a Cultural Arts Grant provided by the generous support of the Newport Beach City Council.
