In celebration of artist Joan Irving Brandt and the impact she had on the California Scene Painting movement and the arts in the City of Newport Beach, the Newport Beach City Arts Commission is hosting a Centennial Celebration with an art exhibition, art lecture, and Centennial Celebration program and reception.

Art historian and curator Gordon T. McClelland will introduce and moderate a panel discussion with art collector E. Gene Crain, and Brandt’s daughters Joan Scarboro Brandt and Shelley Walker Brandt, talking about life events and the lasting impression left by the artist in both her work and her civic contributions to the City of Newport Beach. The discussion will be followed by a reception in the Bamboo Courtyard.

The event is presented by the Newport Beach City Arts Commission and funded through a Cultural Arts Grant provided by the generous support of the Newport Beach City Council.
