SOCALPAPA Paints OC Parks and the Back Bay

Southern California Plein Air Painters Association (SOCALPAPA) artists return to the Upper Newport Bay for their Fine Arts Juried Event and Display Sale in July. The two-part celebration and showcase will include a juried plein air art competition featuring the Back Bay and OC Parks’ land and a weekend display show and sale. Paintings on display will showcase the beauty and natural heritage of the area.

SOCALPAPA artists will submit over sixty original paintings for jury review and awards at the Artists’ Reception on Friday, July 14, 2017, with the art to be exhibited for sale that evening. Nationally recognized artist and Laguna College of Art and Design instructor, Gil Dellinger, will judge the event for the artist awards. Although the reception is open to only those with invitations, the weekend Display Show on Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16 is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Several hundred additional original paintings will be exhibited and for sale during the weekend Display Show. These original paintings will feature the bay, OC parks, local iconic scenes, as well as other California landscapes and landscape features. A portion of the sale proceeds will go to the Newport Bay Conservancy, a charitable organization, resulting in a partial charitable tax write-off for the art purchaser.

FREE PAINTING CLASSES FOR KIDS from age seven to twelve will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday in the morning and in the afternoon. Three SOCALPAPA artists and art instructors, Randi Moran, Sandra Morrison, and Christie Massingill, will provide the children with an unforgettable fine art experience. Classes will be held in the children’s classroom inside the Muth Interpretive Center from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. that weekend. All materials are supplied, and participants will take home a completed painting at the end of each class. Student space is limited, and classes will fill up quickly.
