Rainy Day Activities for the Kids

Rainy Day Activities for the Kids

Winter is officially here, and while Southern California doesn’t typically get extreme weather, we do experience a little drizzle here and there. When the rain does come (and the kids go stir-crazy), it’s essential to have a few rainy day activities in your back pocket. With that said, we’ve rounded up a few ways to entertain the kiddos when the sky is angry!

Enjoy a Cozy Breakfast at Cappy’s Cafe

Breakfast is always a good idea! Take the fam to Cappy’s Cafe for a cozy morning meal! This charming restaurant has been a Newport Beach staple for over 39 years and has a full bar (for the adults) and a kids menu for the little ones. While you sip on a mimosa or Bloody Mary and enjoy an omelet, they can snack on French toast, pancakes or eggs and bacon!

Catch a movie at The LOT at Fashion Island

While the beach may be a no-go on a rainy day, the movies are always in style! Gather the kids and see a flick this winter at The LOT at Fashion Island. This state-of-the-art movie theater features everything from new releases to discounted matinees. And unlike other movie theaters, The LOT offers a full menu! Snack on eats like Buttermilk Fried Calamari, Parsley Truffle Fries, flatbreads and even sushi!

Play at the Fun Zone Arcade & Game Room

Is there anything kids enjoy more than a trip to the arcade? If you have children, you know the answer is no. The Fun Zone Arcade & Game Room is the perfect place to spend a rainy day! This old-school arcade offers a variety of games like Skee-Ball and digital Deal or No Deal. And once they’ve played their hearts out, snag a slice of ‘za from Pizza Pete’s to complete a day well-spent.

Take the Kids to My Gym

When the kids are going stir-crazy from being cooped up inside, sign them up for a class at My Gym, Newport Beach’s recreation center for kids. This local gym offers a variety of activities for kids like gymnastics, reading and arts and crafts. During these classes, kids will learn skills such as agility, team-building, socialization, listening and more.

Dine at The Old Spaghetti Factory

Taking the little ones out to eat can be daunting, no doubt. But at The Old Spaghetti Factory, it’s a piece of cake! This family-friendly restaurant offers a kids three-course meal. Children 12 and under can choose a delicious entree, a side of applesauce or salad, a drink of milk, apple juice, or soda and spumoni or vanilla ice cream for dessert.
