Where to Take Your Furry Friend on National Puppy Day!

What they say is true: a dog is a man’s best friend. And since today is National Puppy Day, we’ve rounded up all of the places you can take your fluffy friend in Newport Beach! From beachfront hotels to restaurant patios and parks, these dog-friendly spots are sure to make their tails wag. So leash up, and let’s show Fido a good time on National Puppy Day!

Dog-Friendly Hotels

Balboa Bay Resort

Balboa Bay Resort, a AAA Four-Diamond and Forbes Four-Star rated resort, offers the best views of Newport Harbor! Make sure to get a harbor-facing balcony room to gaze at the stunning sunsets Newport Beach has to offer every evening. Balboa Bay Resort welcomes one dog (maximum 35 pounds) per room for a $150 non-refundable, one-time fee. Your furry friend will feel right at home with an in-room dog bed, set of bowls, and a goodie bag full of treats, toys, and more from a local pet boutique, Charlie and Me.

Hyatt Regency Newport Beach

Less than a mile from Fashion Island, the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach offers 26 acres of sprawling, beautiful property to roam around. The hotel welcomes up to two traveling canine companions (maximum 50 pounds, or combined weight of 75 pounds for two dogs) for a non-refundable $150 fee for stays less than six days. Longer-term stays will require an additional deep cleaning fee. Amenities include treats, pet beds, and a set of bowls.

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina

Looking for an adventure-filled stay? Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina offers a multitude of family-friendly activities right along the scenic Back Bay. Up to two pets are allowed for a small fee of $2 per day, $10 per week, or $30 a month. An off-leash dog run is located on the property for your furry friend to run around freely!

Resort at Pelican Hill

Relax and stay at the luxurious Resort at Pelican Hill with your pup! The property welcomes up to two dogs for an additional fee. During your stay, enjoy a nice bed and breakfast, or grab a bite to eat at the on-site restaurants with pets allowed at the Coliseum Pool & Grill upper patio, cabanas and terrace, Pelican Grill terrace, Andrea Bar terrace, Villa Clubhouse terrace, and Caffe & Market terrace.

Balboa Inn

Located right on the sand at Newport Beach, Balboa Inn is convenient for long, romantic strolls on the boardwalk with your pup! Pets (maximum 75 lbs) are allowed at the Balboa Inn with a first night fee of $50 and a $25 fee each consecutive night after that.

Renaissance Newport Beach Hotel

The newly-remodeled Renaissance Newport Beach Hotel, with a pet-friendly staff, is perfect for a family-friendly escape including little Fido! The hotel welcomes up to two pets (maximum 50 pounds) per room for an additional fee of $150 per pet, per stay. The property offers a pet relief area with a convenient waste station.

Dog-Friendly Parks

Castaways Park

This leisurely walking trail offers breathtaking views of Newport Back Bay and Newport Harbor from above. Grab your pooch and wind down your day with a sunset walk along the paved path, admiring native plant communities and enjoying the ocean views and breeze. If you are looking for a longer trek, the Back Bay Loop Trail is a 10-mile trail that loops around the bay.

Inspiration Point

Along the shores of Corona del Mar State Beach is a pet-friendly park called Inspiration Point. It is a popular spot to see the Pacific Ocean in all its glory. Walk your dog along the boardwalk or enjoy a few games of fetch on the grassed areas. Parking can be found on Ocean Boulevard or any adjacent side street.

Newport Beach Dog Park

The Newport Beach Dog Park can be found next to the Newport Beach Civic Center. It contains a fenced-in area for your dogs to run free and artificial turf for easy maintenance. This dog park has a good reputation for attracting friendly dogs but offers separate areas for both big and small dogs if needed. Best of all, you have a beautiful view of the ocean!

Newport Beach Boardwalk

The Newport Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk is a great option for beginners, whether the beginner is you or your dog. The three-mile, multi-use trail offers level pavement with a front-row seat to the ocean shores. Take in views of the rolling waves as you walk, run or bike along this pristine stretch of coastline. The boardwalk begins at 36th St., ends at E St. and features access to a variety of trails along the way.

Dog-Friendly Restaurant Patios

Wilma’s Patio Restaurant

Balboa Island is not only notorious for its charming shops and restaurants but also its dog-friendly atmosphere. And let it be known: Wilma’s Patio is no exception! This time-honored restaurant serves a breadth of classic American comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Grab a seat on the heated patio and enjoy the laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere of this quaint island eatery.

Moulin

Bring Fido to this Parisian-style cafe for an al fresco brunch or lunch! Moulin features a glass case full of fresh pastries and a menu with classic plats du jour. The umbrella-filled patio sits at the front of the restaurant and offers a quaint space for a coffee and pastry or a hearty brunch.

Haute Cakes Caffe

Since 1990, Haute Cakes Caffe has been a go-to for its delicious breakfasts and lunch options. The restaurant’s casual neighborhood setting features a cozy courtyard that welcomes dogs with open arms. Sit down to a delicious stack of blueberry cornmeal pancakes and let the weekend brunching begin!

Zinc Cafe & Market

This elegant cafe and retail destination boasts a sophisticated setting for breakfast, lunch or an after-dinner dessert. Sip a warm coffee or crisp glass of wine on the shaded patio, then browse through the market’s selection of tasty to-go items like cheeses, condiments, wines and more. Zinc even provides water bowls for your pup!

Bluewater Grill

Make no bones about it: Bluewater Grill loves fur babies just as much as sustainable seafood! This bayside eatery features a sweeping patio and will even pamper your pup with a bowl of water and complimentary dog bones. They also have a special dog menu, with items like “Meat ‘Roaff'” and “House Made Bark Treats.”

Bear Flag Fish Co.

Get your seafood fix at this not-so-secret Newport hotspot! Bear Flag is home to a mouthwatering menu of fresh fish, including poke, poke burritos, fresh chowder, sushi, sauteed clams and mussels, ceviche and more. Plus, your pup will love the sun-soaked outdoor patio at both Newport Beach locations!

Lighthouse Bayview Cafe

This two-story, dog-friendly restaurant on Balboa Blvd. offers locals and guests a waterfront dining experience unlike any other. Stop in for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner and treat your tastebuds to classic American cuisine while your eyes feast on stunning views of Newport Harbor. Lighthouse Cafe sits right next to Marina Park, so you can take your pooch on a peaceful stroll after you eat!

Wild Taco

Tucked on the bustling Balboa Peninsula, Wild Taco offers diners an old-timey ambiance with a touch of Mexican Riviera flair. True taco aficionados will love the selection of Baja-inspired tacos such as the spicy asada, lobster, calamari, al pastor and more! Dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio, which features two long communal tables and several smaller ones.

Zinqué

Coastal-chic vibes come to life at Zinqué in Lido Marina Village. This contemporary French-style eatery is an ideal sunset dinner spot with a selection of small plates, a curated wine selection and breathtaking bayfront views. Snag a seat on the heated patio with your pup and enjoy an al fresco meal as the boats cruise by.

Balboa Lily’s

Farm-fresh dishes and a quaint atmosphere combine to make Balboa Lily’s a local breakfast, brunch and lunch hotspot. The restaurant lies just steps from the Balboa Pier in the historic Balboa Village and boasts a breezy pet-friendly patio. You’ll fall in love with this neighborhood gem and its farm-to-table approach.
