Where to Stay and Shop This Season in Newport Beach
‘Tis the season to shop! Whether your winter wardrobe needs a refresh or you’re on the hunt for the perfect gift, Newport Beach is a hub for all things holiday. So before you “add to cart” and begin online ordering, check out this itinerary chock-full of retail destinations. From the quaint boutiques at Lido Marina Village to the snazzy department stores at Fashion Island, let this local guide be your one-stop shop.
Stay at VEA Newport Beach
The newly refreshed VEA Newport Beach is the perfect place to call home for the holidays. This sweet retreat sits in the heart of it all—just steps from Newport Beach’s shopping mecca, Fashion Island. Highlights of the property include masterfully designed guest rooms, a vibrant pool scene, a signature restaurant with golf course and ocean views, a Euro-inspired coffee bar and patisserie and a 14,000-square-foot spa sanctuary. Trust us—you’ll feel right at home.
9 a.m. Breakfast at the Galley Cafe
Just a few miles from VEA sits the Galley Cafe—an old-school waterfront diner that’s been serving up American fare since 1957. Nostalgic on both the inside and outside, this quaint restaurant is as retro as it gets—think classic club sandwiches, loaded omelets and milkshakes served in vintage fountain glasses. Soak in views of the boat-filled bay out the window as you chow down on a.m. classics.
11 a.m. Walk, Explore and Shop on Balboa Island
Next stop, Balboa Island! Zip over the bay bridge to Marine Avenue, where you’ll find a quaint street filled with locally owned boutiques, art galleries and time-honored restaurants. Find parking (be patient!) and take a stroll, popping into shops like Sur La Mer Coastal Goods, Crush Clothing, Etc. Etc., and Isabelle’s Cabinet. There’s no better place to shop local this season!
3 p.m. Holiday Shopping + Lunch at Fashion Island
If high-end is your vibe, Fashion Island is sure to please. This sprawling outdoor center is home to an array of shops—from name-brand labels and department stores to locally owned boutiques. If you’re buying for the whole fam this Christmas, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom have it all, but we also love stores like Talia and Rails for women’s apparel, Faherty and Brixton for surf and skate wear and Vuori and Alo Yoga for activewear.
4pm: Browse at Lido Marina Village
With its seaside charm and laid-back luxe vibe, Lido Marina Village is a must-visit destination, especially during the holiday season. The center sets itself apart from your typical mall with its white brick storefronts, paved pathways and unique collection of brands. Browse through shops like Le Labo for high-end fragrances, Roller Rabbit and Minnow for kids clothing and accessories, Marrow Fine for jewelry and Cynthia Rowley, Jenni Kayne and Faherty for stylish apparel. The season’s greatest gifts await at Lido Marina Village.
5 p.m. Dinner at Farmhouse + Explore the Christmas Boutique at Roger’s Gardens
Sit down to a cozy, farm-to-table meal at Farmhouse. Set on the lush grounds of Roger’s Gardens in Corona del Mar, this candlelit restaurant offers guests a true seasonal dining experience. After you’ve had your fill of fresh fare crafted by the talented Chef Rich Mead, take a walk over to the ‘Christmas Confections’ holiday boutique to shop a festive collection of sparkling treasures and unique gifts.
