Local Lifestyle Influencer on Holiday Glam
News flash: the invites are pouring in! No other time of year sees as many soirées as the holiday season. With so many social commitments ahead, we have been thinking about our holiday get-ups, so we reached out to local influencer Shannon Barker—who runs a lifestyle YouTube channel and whose Instagram profile is a lesson in effortless, casual styling, with trend-led pieces cleverly woven in. Shannon is giving us O.O.T.D. (that’s “Outfit of the Day”) inspiration, make-up holy grails and last-minute tips on wrapping up 2019 in style.

The look I can’t wait to wear for the holidays is:
I’ve been collecting a ton of vintage clothes this year, so I’m very excited that I can finally wear the jackets and sweaters I bought back in July!
-
My go-to beauty routine for the holidays is:
Staying hydrated is key this time of year! The weather is cold and dry, and of course, back-to-back holiday parties will leave you a bit dehydrated. I try to drink two liters of water a day and eat as many greens as I can. Eating healthy this time of year will give you the energy you’re craving and protect your body from unwanted holiday stress. I also love stopping by the hydration room for an IV. It will help you get through the season with glowing skin.

When it comes to lipstick shades, you can never go wrong with:
“Grace” from Vapour beauty! It’s actually a multi-use cream stick for cheeks, lips and lids. It’s my go-to color right now.
-
If there’s one accessory I absolutely need to have going into 2020, it would be:
A baguette purse. This 90’s trend is back and here to stay for a while.
-
A favorite cozy piece for when the temps drop outside?
My vintage army jacket. The army green acts as a neutral so it pretty much goes with everything.
-
The trends I think are going to take 2020 by storm include:
80’s trends and silhouettes are back—oversized blazers, puffy sleeves, pearls, pastels and dare I say, shoulder pads.
-
What’s a high-wattage, festive piece that’ll make anyone stand out at any holiday party?
I love a statement accessory, whether it’s your purse, shoe, or jewelry. I think it’s a chic way to turn any nighttime look into a holiday look.
-
Having casual holiday cocktails with friends?
I’d go for: My favorite vintage jeans, an oversized cable-knit sweater, black booties, and throw on some gold hoop earrings.
-
When planning my attire for New Year’s Eve, I always remember to:
Keep it comfortable! Obviously, we all want to feel extra sparkly on New Year’s Eve, but there’s nothing worse than not being able to be present because you’re getting blisters from your new heels or wearing a dress that’s a bit too tight. Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.
-
Final, tried-and-true tip for feeling confident during the holidays?
For me personally, I make sure to keep up my healthy eating and workout routine this time of year. That way, I can enjoy the extra treats and drinks at parties and still feel great. Also, when January and New Year’s resolutions roll around, you’ll already have a head start.
