Tipping its hat to travelers who want to experience the best in dining, shopping and recreation, this boutique property serves as a buzz-worthy hub for all things entertainment. Enjoy Adventurous Activities

For this particular section, we consulted Andy “Ants in His Pants” Martin—an important member of our club’s recreation committee. While he could barely sit still during this informal conversation, we managed to gather his input on the best activities in Newport Beach. His suggestions are as follows: “Rent a Newport Beach Moke for a jaunt around town. These retro automobiles will surely turn heads as you pull up to The Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach for a competitive game of pickleball with your posse. Regarding off-shore escapades, paddleboarding through the Back Bay is a splendid way to witness the area’s natural beauty, and jet skiing on the open sea is also a viable option for thrill-seekers.” A special thanks to Andy for his valuable insight.

Discover the Beauty of Newport Beach

Nature abounds across the grounds of Newport Beach—from rugged bluffs and scenic shorelines to rolling hills and blooming gardens. As the sun begins to rise, lace up your sneakers for a hike through Crystal Cove—one of the region’s largest remaining examples of preserved natural beauty. Among the top things to do in Newport Beach is exploring the Balboa Peninsula, known for its soft, sandy beaches and barreling blue waves. Newport Beach parks and recreation also offer a wealth of outdoor experiences, from family-friendly spaces to serene trails perfect for solo adventures. For botanical beauty and a glimpse of Newport Beach history, spend the afternoon wandering the blooming pathways of Sherman Library and Gardens, a 2.2-acre horticultural oasis in the charming neighborhood of Corona del Mar.

If your kiddos are beach-ed out and are eager to switch things up, a day at the park may be the perfect pivot when it comes to family-friendly activities in Newport Beach. Trade sandcastles for slides and swings by visiting one of Newport Beach’s beautiful parks! Whether you’re planning a family picnic by the beach or want to let your little ones romp around on a playground, this list of parks in Newport Beach will keep them entertained all day long.

Marina Park

Possibly one of the best parks in Newport Beach for kids, Marina Park sits on 10.5 acres and is home to a nautical-themed Newport Beach playground, outdoor fitness circuit, basketball courts and more. Families love enjoying picnics on the large grass area and popping across the street to the other side of the Balboa Peninsula for some time on the sand. Also part of this park in Newport Beach is a sailing center where people of all ages can rent stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. And when your littles get hungry, be sure to head up to Lighthouse Café for a meal with a view! This restaurant sits right next to the grassy area and playground, serves brunch and dinner, and even has a kids’ menu.

Irvine Terrace Park

Irvine Terrace Park is situated just south of the Newport Beach Country Club on Pacific Coast Highway. And while its location may seem busy, it’s a rather serene park in Newport Beach with great views of the harbor through the pines. There’s lots of lawn space should you want to throw down a blanket and picnic, and the Newport Beach playground is fun for kids of all ages. There are swings, slides, a teeter-totter and more for your little ones to enjoy.

Newport Beach Civic Center Park

For a little bit of art, a whole lot of natural beauty and plenty of space to explore with your kids, add Newport Beach’s Civic Center Park to your must-visit list of Newport Beach parks. Situated on Avocado Ave, just a quick stroll from Fashion Island, this 14-acre park is home to a 1.23-mile walking trail that weaves along natural wetlands. As you and your kiddos stroll through, you’ll also come across several outdoor sculptures and art installations, like the iconic and larger-than-life white bunnies that sit in a circle. For a full sculpture exhibit walking tour, download the MyNB app!

Coastal Peak Park

While Coastal Peak Park may not be as coastal as some of the others on this list of Newport Beach parks, it is chock-full of amenities. Perched high up in the Newport Coast hills and close to the trails of Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, this recreation spot is a haven for kids looking to play the day away. The playground equipment can keep kids of all ages entertained all day. There’s a sandbox, huge grassy fields, spinning chairs, a climbing rock and a paved path that circles the play area, which is perfect for scootering and biking.

West Newport Park

Located only a block from the beach, West Newport Park is a paradise for not only kids but parents too. Many adults use this park in Newport Beach to get their steps in or walk their pups, but kids will love the three playgrounds along this stretch. You can’t miss this park when you’re driving between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. Restaurants and shops line one side, while West Newport Park sits on the other side. Seashore Drive is the best place to park, but you’ll want to pop across the street to visit Vacancy Coffee for a morning brew.

Balboa Pier and Peninsula Park

As they say, location, location, location! One of the best things about this park in Newport Beach is its proximity to all the fun. Balboa Pier and Peninsula Park sits right on the sand, mere steps away from the Balboa Pier. There’s a playground with swings, barbeques for grilling, a large grass field for sports, public restrooms and fire pits right on the sand. Families can enjoy the best of beaches or stroll over to Balboa Village, which is home to the iconic Balboa Fun Zone, for a ride on the Ferris wheel. There are also tons of restaurants and dessert shops nearby too, making it one of the best spots for kid-friendly activities in Newport Beach.

San Miguel Park

Tucked in a quiet Newport Beach neighborhood, San Miguel Park is home to the city’s first universally accessible playground—thoughtfully designed so children of all abilities can play side by side. The upgraded playground features over 20 accessible, ground-level activities, elevated components with transfer platforms, ADA-compliant pathways, and improved parking. Families can enjoy a central shaded seating area (shade structures coming soon!) that offers a full view of every play zone. Ideal for birthday parties, the park includes picnic tables, grills, and restrooms. Kids ages 2 to 12 will love the variety of play areas, including a new 4-person teeter totter and a whimsical “San Miguel Beach Store” for imaginative play.

For decades, Newport Beach has stood proudly as the hub for Orange County’s freshest seafood. This history dates back to the early 1900s when Newport Harbor was a working seaport that supported maritime industries, such as boatbuilding and commercial fishing.

While today, the harbor is mainly used for recreation, our city is still known for reeling in some of the freshest, wild-caught seafood. Whether you’re craving sushi, shellfish, clam chowder, lobster rolls, or anything in between, there’s a spot to cure your cravings. So, let’s drop anchor and dive into our list of the best seafood restaurants in Newport Beach!

The Cannery

Tucked along the Rhine Canal, The Cannery has been serving up some of the freshest seafood in Newport for over 30 years. The waterfront patio makes for an ideal dock-and-dine experience, while the intimate indoor dining room is sophisticated and cozy for date nights or special occasions. In terms of their sea-to-table menu, diners can feast on appetizers like crab cakes, oysters, calamari, sushi rolls, and charred octopus to start, then move on to mains like the Alaskan halibut, cioppino, or grilled whole branzino. Pro tip: If you’re looking for a more casual dining experience, head upstairs to The Cannery’s Jellyfish Lounge, where they serve happy hour seven days a week from 3:30-6 p.m.

The Dock

An infused New American menu and a quintessential old Newport vibe make The Dock a classic and elevated place to dine. The shady patio gives way to beautiful views of the boat-filled bay and is the perfect place to savor a salty breeze and some fresh seafood. For your first course, dig into Japanese hamachi sashimi or red wine-poached pears. Then, savor mains like the soy-glazed ora king salmon, prosciutto-wrapped mai diver scallops, and spiced New Zealand rack of lamb.

Bluewater Grill

After a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2022, Bluewater Grill in Cannery Village reopened its doors, debuting an elevated setting perfect for a bayside meal. The seafood here is purchased from local fishermen, and they also do some of their own fishing via the restaurant’s own swordfish harpoon boat! Kick things off with a round of Michelada oyster shooters or smoked old-fashioned, then dig into the baked crab and artichoke dip. For entrees, the lemon pepper mahi mahi and sautéed sanddabs with scalloped potatoes, spinach, lemon, and a caper beurre blanc sauce are crowd favorites. If you plan on docking and taking your food to-go, however, the menu of kits and platters is your best bet!
