Enjoy a Cozy Café this Fall in Newport Beach

Enjoy a Cozy Café this Fall in Newport Beach

Now that fall is here I’m really excited about soup season and cozy cafés! And in my opinion, there is no more dynamic duo of fall, than soups and sandwiches. No matter what season it is, check out these five cozy cafés in Newport Beach for soup, or sandwiches, and more.

Zinc Cafe in Corona Del Mar offers a cozy atmosphere with a vegetarian menu. Their unique menu includes black bean chili, a soup of the day like butternut squash soup, a brie sandwich you will want to write home about, and even a “reubenesque” sandwich featuring beets. Don’t shy away from it, give it a try! And if you’re a sucker for sandwiches from your childhood, check out their not-so-average grilled cheese with gruyere cheese, cornichons, tomato, marinated onions and dijonaise. Bonus: Zinc Cafe offers craft libations, coffees, juices, and more. What’s better than good food? Good food and shopping. Zinc Cafe is also a market of small home goods and great giftables.

Rose Bakery, also in Corona Del Mar, offers fresh, delicious food and great outdoor seating. Perfect for a cozy afternoon! Their menu is pretty extensive, including both warm and cold sandwiches. People rave about their club sandwich, but it’s a hard choice when they also offer other classics like a tuna melt, cold pastrami, or grilled steak. But like every great cafe, they also have a soup of the day (on weekdays) that can feature such favorites as Italian wedding soup and clam chowder. Top your meal off with their beautiful baked goods and fresh coffee.

Cafe Basil located near Fashion Island is small sandwich shop with an extensive menu. Hearty turkey chili and vegetable soup are offered daily, and their list of sandwiches might make your head spin, but will definitely make you drool, too. Cold sandwiches, warm sandwiches, and even paninis (different warm sandwiches) may create a little pre-order panic, but you can’t go wrong with options like bacon-tomato-avocado grilled cheese, bulgogi (Korean beef) sandwich, reuben, French dip, and meatball.

Orange Blossom Cafe is a great cozy option if you’re near the beach. They’re located in Balboa Village and offer delightful choices like a classic turkey sandwich or herb cheese and vegetable sandwich made with herbed cream cheese, cucumber, greens and tomato. But if there’s anything that can tempt me more than herbed cream cheese, it just might be a PLT. That’s right, proscuitto, lettuce, and tomato sandwich. If you’re not sold yet, they also offer freshly made gelato.

W Cafe is an upscale option in the Mariners Mile/Westcliff area, and it’s also the perfect spot if you’re looking for a secluded café. While they are well-known for offering traditional high-tea, they have some seriously satisfying menu options as well. The menu includes soups like vegetable or beef and barley, and sandwiches like the highly-rated chicken pesto sandwich or chicken parmigiana sandwich. And while I’m not trying to start the whole burger versus sandwich debate here, I am saying that while we’re talking about delicious things between bread, you might want to glance at the burgers, because they have a lamb burger with tzatziki sauces.
