An Unmatched Experience

A Culinary Journey of Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine

If you’re a Newport Beach local, you may know that one of the best secrets in town is Aloha Hour at Roy’s. Small food plates, think tapas, and bar items, are served from 4:30p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every night, and all night Sundays, at a reduced price.

My wife and I love to escape to Roy’s and get that feeling like we’re dining somewhere in Hawaii — which is ironic because whenever we vacation in Hawaii, we always cook!

Another one of our favorite things is craft beer.

Well Roy’s is bringing its great Hawaiian Fusion cuisine and the craft beer of Noble Ale Works together for a special beer dinner Friday, October 18th. This will truly be a mouth-watering labor of love between Chef Partner Edgar Agbayani and Noble Ale Works’ Evan Price.

Here is a look at the menu they came up with and it certainly looks diverse yet delicious:

FIRST COURSE

Tuna Tataki

Pepper, Mustard, Grougere, Yuzu Powder

Paired with Rosalita – Hibiscus Lager

SECOND COURSE

Tom Kha & Escargot Dumpling

Escargot Dumplings, Bamboo Shoots, Straw Mushrooms

Paired with Pistol Whip’d – Czech-Style Pilsner

THIRD COURSE

Southeast Asian Seafood Brats

Saffron Cous Cous, Fennel and Lobster, Scallop & Shrimp Sausage

Paired with Breakaway Pale Ale

FOURTH COURSE

Lamb Bulgogi

Coconut Rice Fritters, Thai Basil Gelee

Paired with Big Black Mariah – Dark Belgian Strong Ale

DESSERT

Mini Dutch Babies

Huckleberry Compote, Honey-Lingonberry Compound Butter and Lemon Curd

Paired with Moby Dick – English-Style Pub Ale

The event runs $65 per person and does not include tax or gratuity.

I’m already trying to find a way to grab a babysitter that night so that the wife and I can enjoy the event! Space is extremely limited and reservations are required, so please call (949) 640-7697.

As a beer fan, it is great to see these types of dinner offerings showing love to the beer community.  For years, wine lovers were able to savor these types of events, which mixed a various course with a wine, usually starting with a light white, and working up to a full-bodied red. As you can see with the beer pairing, the event starts with a very light hibiscus lager and works its way up to a rich English-style pub ale.

For those who are attending the event, enjoy!
