14th Annual Newport Beach Jazz Party

Pack your bags and head to Newport Beach for Valentine’s & Presidents’ Weekend! Groove over to Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa on February 13-16, 2014 and get ready to be swooned by some seriously soulful tunes.
For the 14th year, jazz lovers from around the country retreat in Newport Beach for “Right Down The Middle And Straight Ahead” Jazz.
Here are highlights of this 14th Annual jazz lover’s weekend:
Thursday’s Grand Opening Night:
The evening will begin at 7:30pm with the Byron Stripling Quartet featuring Llew Matthews, Richard Simon and Butch Miles in a set dedicated to the great Louis Armstrong.
The second set will be a Salute to Benny Goodman by the Ken Peplowski – Chuck Redd Quintet and closing this swinging first night will be the Byron Stripling Big Band featuring Butch Miles in Gershwin, Cole Porter & The Duke.
Friday Night:
The evening will begin at 7:00pm with the very popular Jeff Hamilton Trio.
The second set will kick off with the Dena DeRose Trio featuring Nicki Parrott and Chuck Redd plus special guests Houston Person and Claudio Roditi.
The third set will continue a memorable Valentine’s evening with the Ken Peplowski Quartet followed by a Salute to Jazz at the Philharmonic with Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, Claudio Roditi, John Allred, Eric Reed, John Clayton, Butch Miles and Chuck Redd!
Saturday Night:
The third of four swingin’ nights will begin with the All-Star group of Eric Reed, Mike Gurrola, Jeff Hamilton and Scott Hamilton followed by Harry Allen’s Salute to Stan Getz with Claudio Roditi, Bill Cantos, Chuck Berghofer and more!
Closing the evening will be an explosive set by the undisputed king of the Hammond B3 organ, Joey DeFrancesco together with Jeff Hamilton and Houston Person!
Sunday, Closing Night:
The 4th and final night, will begin with an All-Star set featuring Ken Peplowski, John Allred, Harry Allen, Tom Ranier, Chuck Berghofer, Butch Miles and Chuck Redd.
Bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott will lead a duo set with Eric Reed followed by, for the first time, two spectacular sets by the famous Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with the first set featuring Barbara Morrison and the second set featuring Ernie Andrews!
This special evening brings together the LIVE performance of the L.A. Treasures Project and the release of the historic CD.
In addition to performances on the main stage, the weekend also offers repeat performances by the pool, “up close and persona;” jazz duos and trios at Sam & Harry’s and two musically charged champagne brunches.
