6 Sandwiches Not to Miss in NB
August is National Sandwich month! That’s right, a whole month dedicated to the simple, yet endlessly satisfying culinary creation. No need for utensils, sometimes not even a plate. To put it simply, sandwiches have become a representation of our culture, our personalities and our individuality. They’re diverse and always delicious in their own way, and we LOVE sandwiches…so it’s time we celebrate them! Now that we’ve expressed our ample love for this classic cuisine of all ages, let’s talk about some exceptional sammies you can find right here in Newport Beach. Honestly, there are too many to choose from, but we did our best to narrow it down. On that note, we dare you to eat a different sandwich everyday the rest of the month…
Sessions West Coast Deli
The Summer Zephyr sandwich from Sessions West Coast Deli is a crowd favorite for good reason, and certainly delicious in all seasons. The Zephyr is stuffed with marinated vine-ripened tomato, wild baby arugula, gooey fresh mozzarella, basil aioli, pickled red onion, and drizzled with balsamic reduction, all nestled within their freshly baked french roll. Oh yeah… that just happened, and just steps from the beach too. Check out the open kitchen setup, and watch as they craft your sammie to-order, using locally grown vegetables and top notch meats. No wonder they call their 20+ signature creations “the best sandwich to ever hit the lip”.
Wild Strawberry Cafe
If you find yourself getting a little hangry after a day of window shopping at Fashion Island, fear not. Wild Strawberry Cafe has got you covered with varietal menu of healthy options, and relaxing environment. This is the quintessential Newport cafe, trendy and bright, with a European emphasis. Although their Pastrami is favored, we have to speak up on the behalf of their Turkey sandwich. An unbeatable classic: turkey, swiss, avocado and pesto aioli on some of the best bread you’ll ever bite into.
Moulin Bistro
Nothing amplifies a sandwich more than a velvety egg yolk dripping all over it. At this French eatery, bread and pastries triumph. Their Croque Madame is fan favorite, and truly authentic. Buttery, cheesey, and oh-so-satisfying, you’ll find yourself craving it far too often.
The Trough
Because sandwiches are good for every meal of the day… and, The Trough serves them allllll day long! The Breakfast Sandwich is as straight-forward as they come. It’s simply perfection – bacon, ooey-gooey egg and melted cheddar on sourdough. Call it basic, whatever, it’s too good to care.
Pandor Artisan Boulangerie & Bistro
Known for the freshly baked breads and pastries, this artisan shop always delivers when it comes to classic French cuisine. What sets Pandor apart from other bakeries is their incredibly talented French chefs, specialty ingredients, superior equipment, and their exemplary execution of the classic artisanal baking process. This is no exception when it comes to their sweet vs savory Monte Cristo sandwich. Filled with fresh meats and housemade jam, it’s calling your name practically every hour of the day. If you like your sandwiches on the gourmet side, this is the perfect solution.
Lotus Bistro
This is one of those places you’d refer to as a “little gem”. Typically visited for their vermicelli and ever-popular pho, we’re here to tell you that their Pork Banh Mi is equally off the hook. It’s as classic as Banh Mi comes really – marinated meat, pickled vegetables like carrot and daikon, a little jalapeno, cilantro, soy, and special mayo all wrapped in a French baguette. Whether you order in or take-out, this traditional Vietnamese eatery won’t disappoint.
