6 New Businesses to Check Out This Winter Season
It’s a new year, which means it’s time to start making a list of new places to dine, shop and explore! Newport Beach is welcoming several new businesses in 2023, including everything from renowned restaurants to charming boutiques and specialty stores. So without further ado, we present the six newbies of Newport Beach. Welcome to our city by the sea!
Sushi fanatics rejoice! SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa has announced it will open its first-ever Orange County location later this year in Corona del Mar. This famed LA-based restaurant has garnered a cult following for its refined, traditional sushi experience, featuring a variety of a la carte sushi, sashimi and hand rolls. The new space will open next to Vietnamese and Thai fusion hotspot Bamboo Bistro, just down the street from Gulfstream.
New to the Fashion Island scene is renowned luxury jeweler Lugano Diamonds. This flagship location for the brand has taken over the space previously occupied by Canaletto Ristorante and Atomic Creamery. Known for its elegant one-of-a-kind “wearable works of art,” Lugano Diamonds brings an unmatched shopping experience to Newport Beach. The new location’s Grand Salon features a beautifully designed space with a neighboring private club and lush outdoor garden.
While Newport Beach is full of award-winning restaurants, we say the more, the merrier! JOEY Newport Beach will open this winter (Jan. 19) and bring a casual yet refined dining experience to Fashion Island. Known for its locally and globally-inspired menu, JOEY Newport Beach will occupy a modern 9,367 square-foot space with coastal touches. Diners can expect a variety of international cuisines and a vibrant setting perfect for gathering with friends.
Debuting its first West Coast location at Fashion Island this year, Neighborhood Goods is a “new type of department store” that stocks cutting-edge brands—both big and small. Visitors can shop everything from apparel and accessories to wellness products, gifts and stationery items. An opening date is yet to be announced, but we’re sure this lifestyle shop will be a hit!
Joining Lido Marina Village’s unique collection of shops and restaurants is Skål Pizza—a concept by chef/owner Helene Henderson of Malibu Farm. Pie-lovers can expect to find the farm-to-table ethos of Malibu Farm at Skål Pizza, which will occupy 3400 Via Oporto #104. This will also be the restaurant’s first location, and all we know so far is that diners can look forward to enjoying “casual pizza, pasta and salads that are full of color and full of life.” More details to come!
Is it just us, or do coffee shops seem to be getting cuter and cuter each year? This winter, Newport Beach welcomed Freelance Coffee Project, a roastery and tasting room with an emphasis on single-origin coffees. The new tasting room spans 3,500 square feet and was brought to life by the original founders of Long Beach-based Common Room Roasters. Come enjoy a cup of joe in this hip, new space!
