Freshen up Your Look for Spring
Spring cleaning means more than tidying up your house. Warmer weather also calls for a change in your everyday beauty routine, especially when it comes to your hair and skin. From beautiful blowouts to pampering facial and body treatments, here are just some of the places around Newport Beach where you can indulge in some special beauty regimens designed to have you feeling rejuvenated in no time.
Relaxing Resorts
Newport Beach offers a wealth of spa experiences, many found at our luxe resorts. For example, The Spa at Pelican Hill welcomes visitors to embrace the season of renewal with a collection of pampering experiences ranging from facials to body treatments featuring seasonal ingredients. Try the Spring Lavender Body Gelato session, a rejuvenating scrub and moisturizing wrap combining fresh lavender and pure botanicals followed by a delicious lavender gelato treat; Spring Awakening Facial, aimed at re-energizing natural cellular functions and eliminating toxins residing within the skin’s pores via three layers of oxygenation; or a Lovely Locks treatment, a rosemary lime conditioning treatment and hair brushing designed to stimulate the senses and restore healthy shine. Special holiday offerings include a Mother’s Day Spa Suite Retreat massage or facial experience for up to five guests in the facility’s Spa Suite—complete with lunch and a gift for the guest of honor—and the Father’s Day Relax & Reboot, a 50-minute medium-pressure body massage featuring an invigorating dry brushing to stimulate circulation and an aromatic blend of grapefruit and spearmint, along with a 15-minute foot massage.
During the month of May, The Spa at Island Hotel also is honoring all mothers with a Petite Retreat, including a 30-minute classic relaxation massage and Island signature 30-minute facial, manicure and pedicure, plus a glass of champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries afterward. Meanwhile, at a beautiful setting alongside the harbor, The Spa at Balboa Bay Resort offers a full menu of traditional and signature massage services, skin treatments and body therapies, along with whirlpools, steam rooms and saunas. And Pure Blu Spa, at the Newport Beach Marriott, provides specialty treatments featuring the Elemis Biotec and Intraceuticals Oxygen facials and Eminence all-organic skincare. While you’re there, be sure to enjoy the outdoor lap pool, saltwater whirlpool, lavender eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, cool foot plunge and relaxation lounge.
Day Spas
Experience a full line of services in a relaxing setting at Spa Gregorie’s —voted “Best Day Spa” by American Spa and Day Spa magazines, City Search and SpaFinder. At this oasis, men and women can escape the rigors of daily stress, replenish the body and soul, and achieve whole body well-being in an elegant yet comfortable setting. Among the offerings: facials, massages, body wraps, yoga sessions and aromatherapy. At TheSpa Santé and Salon, you’ll find a full range of luxury spa and salon treatments, including hair, nail, massage, aroma therapy, and skincare services. Coming soon…infrared sauna treatments designed to help your body burn calories and to reduce toxins.
Blowouts Galore
Fashion Island’s Drybar is based on the simple concept of focusing on one thing and being the best at it: blowouts. The idea was a natural one for curly haired founder Alli Webb, a longtime professional stylist who constantly found herself overpaying for blowouts at traditional salons. All blowouts are $45 and include a shampoo. Other options include a 10-minute scalp massage during your shampoo, uptinis (aka, updos) and Bay Breeze Hydrating Shots to deeply hydrate dry hair.
Another spot known for its blowouts is the new Lavender Salon, at the Castaway Commons center, next to Gratitude and Ra Yoga. Longing to provide the Parisians’ attention to detail when it comes to all things beauty and hair that she experienced during her frequent travels to France, owner Heather Hart has combined the best aspects of Paris’ most luxurious and exclusive salons at this stunning spot rife with handmade glass chandeliers, violet marble countertops, custom cabinetry and furniture, and original commissioned artwork. The salon also offers a full blow-dry bar available for walk-ins and by appointment, along with haircuts, color, extensions, Brazilian Blowouts, balayage, hair tint, gloss and painting. Full and partial makeup applications also are available, and a full-time esthetician is on staff to provide the latest in facial treatments. As a special treat, guests also can expect everything from Starbucks lattes in Hermes mugs to a roving macaroon cart.
Still in need of hair care? At Cristophe Salon in Fashion Island, celebrity stylist and owner Scott Fontana will offer his opinion on the best cut, color and style for you based on your skin tone, face shape and routine. Then, he will send you off to the stylist best suited for your needs and personality. Toni & Guy Hairdressing Salon offers everything from basic cuts and styles to specialty iron work and updos, as well as basic coloring and lightening to specialty tints and highlights. Meanwhile, those of the male persuasion are front and center at the 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon, at The Bluffs Shopping Center, where the basic barbershop has been reinvented. Expect classic cuts (complete with a five-minute head and neck massage), along with waxing services, and ScalpMetic and SkinMetics treatments. The ScalpMetics treatment has been proven to prevent hair loss, while the SkinMetics session consists of a relaxing and revitalizing facial.
Skin Service
Clearer, brighter, glowing skin is a spring essential. At Skin Laundry, next to Macy’s at Fashion Island, beauty mavens can avail themselves of all of the benefits of a full facial with medical-grade Laser & Light treatment—all completed in just 15 minutes. The laser works below the surface of the skin, killing bacteria and vaporizing the gunk in your pores and stimulates collagen to result in healthy, glowing skin.
