7 Events to Look Forward to in June
The first official day of summer is just a few weeks away, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome our favorite season in Newport Beach! There’s something about those endless beach days, boating adventures and stellar sunsets that never get old. If you couldn’t tell, we love where we live, and whether you’re a Newport native or just stopping by, our coastal city has so much to offer this June in terms of seaside entertainment. From the renowned Newport Beach Jazz Festival to the Annual Balboa Island Parade, here’s what to look forward to this month!
Ocean views, food trucks and all the jazz! The Newport Beach Jazz Festival is back, bringing its captivating performances to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach. This highly anticipated event will run June 2-4 and will feature a legendary lineup of jazz musicians, composers and rising stars. Come celebrate the genre’s rich history on the beautiful Back Bay as artists like KEM, Chanté Moore and Boney James take center stage. This three-day event will be one for the books with a vibrant vendor village full of art, apparel and food and drink vendors.
Revel in the summer vibes at VEA Newport Beach with a concert series under the sun! This ongoing live music event will kick off on June 4 from 2-4 p.m. with country music star Drew Baldridge. Enjoy fantastic food and drink specials and breathtaking ocean views from VEA’s new Sunset Lawn. Slip on your cowboy boots for the 28th Annual Balboa Island Parade on Sunday June 4. This year’s theme is “Horsin’ Around Island Style,” and both participants and spectators are encouraged to don their best western attire. The parade will begin on Marine Ave, and a festive after-party will follow featuring local band “The Fabulous Nomads.” This annual island tradition is always one for the books with decorated golf carts and floats, horses, vintage cars, marching bands and more.
Attracting artists from far and wide, the Newport Beach Art Exhibition offers a coveted platform to showcase their original artwork, which features a multitude of mediums, including oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, charcoal, pen and ink, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Set to take place on June 24 at the Newport Beach Civic Center, this event will kick off with the Art Exhibit and Sale (12-6 p.m.) with an honorary awards reception at 4:30 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to purchase a masterpiece from one of these talented artists!
Show Dad some love this Father’s Day (June 18) by taking him to the Father’s Day Car Show at Balboa Bay Resort! Not only will this event feature a fine collection of world-class automobiles, but it will also have fantastic live music and endless fun for the whole family. Browse through an impressive assortment of classic, rare and custom cars, nosh on smoked BBQ bites and enjoy an ideal day with Dad! This event is free to the public—no ticket required!
Set sail on a maritime adventure at the 7th annual Wooden Boat Festival! With exceptional vessels on display, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorite. But it’s not just about the boats—the festival will have everything from delectable cuisine and live music to exciting activities that will keep you entertained throughout the day. Worried about parking? The festival will have a complimentary shuttle to take you to and from off-site parking areas free of charge. Soak up the stunning waterfront atmosphere and join us in celebrating the timeless allure and impeccable craftsmanship of these privately owned boats.
We love supporting our city’s local makers, and Makers in the Zone offers an opportunity to do just that! Set on the water’s edge at the historic Balboa Fun Zone, this local artisan market takes place every fourth Thursday of the month and features a variety of vendors. Shop everything from athletic wear, decor and wall art to tasty handcrafted treats that’ll satisfy your sweet tooth—Makers in the Zone has it all!
