An Unmatched Experience

Have a Spooky Weekend in Newport Beach

It’s spooky season, y’all, which means it’s time to gear up for a ghoulish time! October ushers in all kinds of tricks and treats in Newport Beach, and we’re here to make your month as bone-chilling as possible. So grab your ghouls and goblins and prepare for a weekend of frights and delights! Here’s how to spend an extra-spooky weekend in Newport Beach.

Visit the Halloween Boutique at Roger’s Gardens

Embrace the eerie vibes of October with a visit to Roger’s Gardens, nestled in the heart of Corona del Mar. This lush oasis is not only full of fall foliage and photo ops, but it officially unveiled its highly-anticipated Halloween Boutique—this year’s theme: The Witching Hour. Dive into an eclectic assortment of hauntingly festive decor that’ll send chills up your spine! As you enter, the potent aroma of ancient herbs hangs heavy, and the dim light of candles reveals walls adorned with potions and spooky trinkets.

Spooky Movie on the Beach

Cozy up this Halloween weekend and catch a flick on the sand at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina. This resort transforms its sandy shores into an outdoor theater under the starry sky, showing everything from animated favorites and classic blockbusters to feel-good films. As their Movies on the Beach series comes to an end this month, there’s no better time for a late-night fright! Newport Dunes will show Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus” on Oct. 28; be sure to bring your own chairs and blankets!

Thrift Shop for a Costume

Halloween’s almost here, and if you’re still without a costume, you’re likely in good company. People fall into two categories: early-bird planners and last-minute scramblers. If you’re part of the latter, don’t stress! We’ve rounded up three thrift stores in Newport Beach to aid in your costume quest. Stop by Swellegant Vintage Clothing, Recycled Rags or On Que Style and hunt for the perfect pieces to bring your vision to life. Filled with a trove of vintage attire and accessories, these shops promise to ignite your Halloween creativity.

Howl-O-Ween at Balboa Bay Resort

This Halloween, head to A+O Restaurant | Bar with your furry friend to indulge in haunting treats and handcrafted drinks by the waterfront. Spoil your dog with selections from A+O’s VIP (Very Important Pooch) menu and pick up a Wag Bag. Snap a pic of your dressed-up pup at the ‘Paws and Repeat’ booth and tag @balboabayresort to be entered in the costume contest. The winner will earn a gift card to A+O!

Sip a Pumpkin Espresso Martini at Eat Chow

Fall means pumpkin spice everything, and Eat Chow is bringing the autumn flavors with their new Pumpkin Espresso Martini. This boozy libation combines the boldness of coffee with the sweetness of pumpkin and comes topped with cold foam and a dash of cinnamon—aka the perfect after-dinner treat! For those looking for something similar but without the boos, try their new Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew + Cold Foam combo, and be sure to pair it with a slice of their decadent pumpkin cheesecake.

Talk and Tour: The Moonlit Garden

There’s nothing like a moonlit walk to get you howling. Sherman Library & Gardens is one of Newport Beach’s oldest landmarks, dating all the way back to 1966. And while the gardens are a splendid place to explore during the day, a nighttime stroll is perfect for spooky season. Experience the Talk and Tour: The Moonlit Garden on Oct. 24 and see how the Sherman Library & Gardens horticulture staff creates an eerie nocturnal experience.
