Pawesome Retreats in Newport Beach
Rumor has it that the happiest place in the world for a dog is in Newport Beach. If you see your dog as a member of your family, a pet-friendly vacation is officially on the summer bucket list. Newport Beach has the weather, dining, and pet-friendly locations to induce tail-wagging bliss. Whether you live in Newport Beach or you’re daydreaming of a sunny escape here are 6 “pawesome” retreats in to enjoy with your pup in tow.
Doggy Networking
We’ll start off with the elevated concept of the classic dog park. Located at Avocado Avenue and San Miguel Drive, the Newport Beach Dog Park is at the top end of the city’s beautiful Civic Center green space. This dog park has a good reputation for attracting friendly dogs but offers separate areas for both big and small dogs, if needed. Best of all, you have a beautiful view of the ocean (what did we say – tail-wagging bliss).
For the aesthetically minded pet, a visit to the Sculpture Exhibition in the Civic Center Park may be in order. Just a quick stroll across the way from the dog park, this exhibit has recently added 10 new sculptures for both of you to enjoy. You can learn more about the new public works of art here.
SUP with the Pup
With the largest recreational harbor on the West Coast, it would be a crime to exclude your four-legged friend from such an adventure. Rent a stand-up paddleboard, also known as SUP, and bring your doggy on board for a cruise down the harbor. He or she will love taking in the sights and if they’re lucky, they may even catch a glimpse of a sun bathing sea lion, a distant marine relative of the canine (but don’t quote us on that). Rent a pet-friendly SUP at Balboa Water Sports.
Barkin’ on the Boardwalk
The Newport Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk is a great option to take in the gorgeous coastline and amazing people watching. The 3-mile multi-use trail offers level pavement with a front row seat to the ocean shores. You can also enjoy the beach with your leashed pet during off-peak hours, which is before 9 AM and after 4:30 PM. Learn more here.
Stop and Smell the Roses
Unwind and take a stroll through Roger’s Gardens, which is walking distance from the dog park. What Neiman Marcus is to fashion, Roger’s Garden is to florals. Explore a variety of plants, décor, and entertaining concepts to get inspired while your dog enjoys the sights and sniffs.
Culinary with your Canine
Your furry friend shouldn’t be left behind when it comes to dining either. Pack the leash and relax on water-front or garden side patios at any of Newport’s pet-friendly restaurants – you can even request a meal to be cooked for your four-legged companion.
