Summer may be winding down, but there’s still plenty of time to soak up the sunshine in Newport Beach. Whether you’re building sandcastles on the shore, spotting sea lions on the harbor, biking along the coast, or exploring the outdoors together, there’s something for every age to enjoy. Before the school year is in full swing, gather the family for one last adventure filled with sunshine, fresh ocean air, and memories that will last long after summer ends.

Paddleboarding 

Whether you’re riding the waves on the big board or on your knees and just learning, paddleboarding is a way to stay cool and active this summer! Plus it’s perfect for the whole family!

“But what if I don’t have a board?” – No worries, Newport Beach offers plenty of locations to rent paddleboards from including, Balboa Water Sports located right next to the Balboa Island Ferry.  

Kayaking 

Slightly less balancing but all the same fun is had when kayaking in the harbor! With loads of opportunities to explore the seas, kayaking is a great way to look at the ocean in a different way this summer. Rental places like Boat Rentals of America offer easy access to kayak launching in the harbor. With both single and double kayaks, there is something for everyone to adventure in.  

Whale Watching 

Looking to get close to the action and feel a splash? Davey’s Locker Whale Watching excursions offer customized boats to fit the occasion. Dive a bit deeper into the water, observing wildlife you can see from the comfort of a boat. 

Sailing 

Looking to get your hands on the wheel or anchor yourself with a drink in your hand? Newport Beach Sailing Charters can take you and your crew aboard a deep-sea excursion, with opportunities to hoist the sails, or offer a relaxing sunset cruise in the harbor. Whatever your vibe is, Captain Frank will match it.  

Surfing 

Join the exclusive surf club and pick up a board at Endless Sun Surf School. Highly trained instructors will guide you through your surf lesson, as you start your journey towards shredding in the waves! All necessary materials are provided so you can hit the waves with no stress. Remember to catch a wave for us! 

Tennis 

Racket in hand, the SoCal sun is an inviting landscape for tennis players! A perfect spot for athletes, the Tennis and Pickleball Club offers a ton of courts for you and your family to use to work on your competitive side. A sunny day, and a racket in one hand is the perfect combination for a summer activity.  

Golf 

FOREEEE! Did we get your attention? If so, head over to the Hyatt Regency Course for your tee time. A round of golf with the family is a great way to create memories that will last a lifetime.  

Marina Park 

Marina Park is THE spot for family fun, recreational play, and community use. The park has tables and chairs, a sandy beach, and grass – so if you’re looking for a picnic spot, I think you’ve found it! 

Hiking 

The outdoor landscape is calling your name! If you haven’t gone hiking in Newport Beach, Crystal Cove State Park is a must. With miles of trails, you are bound to see something new every day! The stunning views of Corona del Mar are something very few trails can beat! 

Tide Pools 

Speaking of stunning views, get your hands wet searching for sea creatures in the tide pools. Little Corona is a small spot covered in rocky reefs, perfect for divers and “tide poolers.” Make sure you check it out at low tide when the pools are most visible! 

The Beach 

What’s summer without a day-long beach trip? Pack your towels and head to the calm waters of the bay at Pirates Cove. If you’re looking for more action, grab your boogie boards and head to Newport Municipal Beach to catch some waves. Make sure you stop for a post-beach treat, at Cowafornia Icecream! 

Balboa Fun Zone 

Arcade, bungee jumping, and a Ferris wheel – YES, PLEASE! The Balboa Fun Zone is a historical landmark, popular for family excursions! Catch a ride over on the Balboa Island Ferry and see what the Fun Zone has to offer.
