The fifth decade of the 20th century was a time when Newport Beach enhanced its reputation as a visitor-friendly destination by land, sea, and air. 🤍

Here are four things to know about Newport Beach in the 1950s:

1. By the 1950s, Crystal Cove had become one of California’s most charming seaside communities, complete with unique traditions like raising a martini flag every Saturday at 4 p.m. to signal the start of happy hour. 🍷

2. In 1952, commercial airline service began at Orange County Airport, now known as John Wayne Airport.

3.In 1953, Newport Beach hosted the Third National Boy Scout Jamboree.

4. In 1958, Newport Dunes opened in Upper Newport Bay.
