An Unmatched Experience

A Bouquet Of Love For Mom’s Special Day!

There is just nothing else like the refreshing scent of springtime flowers dancing in a vase or basket. And here in Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar there are so many splendid, selections to choose from. Whether you are dashing in to pick up an arrangement on the way to brunch, or ordering ahead for delivery, here are some of my favorite finds to brighten her day!

coutureflowersCouture Flowers by Kimberly is really a different kind of floral experience. Kimberly enjoys working with her clients and exploring just what they are looking for. Her “who’s who” of Southern California-clients adore the attention to detail and her one-of-a-kind hand-crafted floral art. Using the freshest flowers that are in season they are delivered to her studio daily. Think about Mom’s favorite color – is it vintage pinks or violets? Kimberly will be pleased to create a memorable arrangement. These can be picked up, or Couture Flowers also delivers. Here is an example of one of the arrangements she is doing for Mother’s Day. This is a seasonal selection of flowers, including: viburnum, peony, roses, hydrangeas and anomies. Price ranges from $75 to $100.

lepetitejardinLe Petite Jardin is a quaint shop just down the street from the Balboa Island Ferry. They are best known for their elegant, sophisticated floral designs with a French flair. Here is an example, all in white, with sweet peas, French tulips, ranunculus, Helleborus orientalis (commonly called Lenten rose) and hydrangeas. Le Petite also makes local deliveries. Their web site provides a lovely selection of floral arrangements to give customers great new ideas for surprising Mom. And yes delivery can be arranged.

newportbeachfloraNewport Beach Flora is tucked in, just adjacent to the Mariner’s Mile on Pacific Coast Highway. This hidden gem is an adorable store, full of creative ideas. Just one of the many examples is this Anita of Texas arrangement. It includes mixed color of tulips, roses, Alstroemeria (commonly called the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas), greenery and hydrangeas. The price of this arrangement is $69-$89. The floral designer I spoke to suggests that customers order “the sooner the better” and they can deliver all over Orange County!

Sachet 100 437219Roger’s Gardens is simply put, my fairy garden of inspiration. As you enter this incredible nursery, straight ahead is a parade of all kinds of amazing baskets, with the most current blooms. They are all arranged so beautifully, and they will also gladly place a pretty bow on the arrangement, and off you go in just minutes. Or, if you make a right turn and meander into the shop of orchids, you will find the Floral Department where they are creating the arrangements right before your eyes. Roger’s also has a plethora of home goods, candles, baskets, and all kinds of glistening treasures and collectables.

There are now four ways for guests to shop quickly at Roger’s Gardens:
1) come in and select a “grab-and-go” arrangement as I have described above; 2) work with the Floral Department from a vast selection or customize one their own arrangement; 3) go online and order an arrangement from the web site, and arrange to come in the following day after noontime to pick it up at the check-out area; or 4) call in an order to be delivered. {Special Offer: If customers order Mother’s Day arrangements from the web site, by May 6th, using MDAY16, local delivery will be complimentary. See web site for details. Excludes special order or custom designs.}

As an example, here is the Mother’s Day Sachet arrangement. This vintage purple Mason jar, with handle, stands 14” tall and is bursting with beautiful blooms. Hydrangea, rose, anemone are just a few of the fresh cut florals you will find in this sweet arrangement.

IMG_2870Vons Pavilions- Super markets have really stepped up their game in terms of their floral departments; and they are very reasonably priced. Pre-made arrangements are displayed behind a glass refrigerator, and there are flower stands cascading with all types of flowers to build your own arrangement. Select Mom’s favorite flowers in hues you know she will cherish. They do have some containers, but often times I bring my own in so they can see what I am attempting to do at home. I find them to be extremely helpful. One day I was looking for a particular color of orange roses, and the person assisting me was climbing about the walk-in and presenting me with a number of choices. I was so appreciative. The two Vons’ stores with the largest selections are noted below (and both are open until midnight).

Trader Joes- Last, but certainly not least, is Trader Joes in Crystal Cove. They have a wonderful selection of flowers, orchids, potted herbs and flowers for planting in the garden. I often pop next door to the Pier One to secure a special card, and they have lovely selection of recycled and decorated gift bags that are perfect for many of the potted plants found at Trader Joes.
