Must Try Avocado Toasts in Newport Beach
Avocado Toast: two words, two ingredients, too simple. Yet the ultimate questions is: why is the combination of these two items such an amazing and satisfying culinary combination? On their own, a great avocado and a slice of fresh toasted bread “ying and yang” in perfect culinary harmony. The myriad of additions to this delectable treat are endless: poached eggs, bacon, tomatoes, radishes, herbs – the list goes on and on. Move over toast and butter; bring on the crusty artisanal bread with a smear of ripe, green avocado, some sea salt – and a few accoutrements to follow. We can’t get enough of our Avo + Toast here in Newport Beach, and here are some of the great places to try.
Avocado…and Toast…and Radishes, OH MY! This Corona del Mar joint has been turning out amazing food for years; yet their take on the avocado toast is completely different and original. Nestled on top of perfectly grilled and buttered toast is a mound of avocado mash with lemon and spices, julienned radish salad, and fresh dill. The addition of a couple of poached eggs elevates this already perfect dish to a breakfast feast. Add a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and you have a perfect meal to start off your day.
Breaking news: avocado toast has been taken to a new level. This 2016 addition to Westcliff has a huge following for its coffee; but their breakfast menu is a sure win as well, including different variations on their breakfast toasts. At the most basic: the “Simple” (as one would order it) – straight avocado and toast. A lovely thick slice of white bread toasted to perfection yet still chewy; a perfect smother of avocado reaching the edges of the toast in a perfect layer; a hint of lemon, sea salt, and cracked pepper on top. Kick it up by ordering the Avocado Garden Toast, to include Cherry Tomatoes, Pickled Seasonal Vegetables and a sprinkle of chives. Or, go for the Gold: their Smoked Avocado Toast boasts addictive additions: Bacon, Cherry Tomatoes, Cilantro, Smoked Paprika, and Lemon Zest.
Avocado and Matcha – perfect combination. Gratitude Newport Beach already corners the market of amazingly creative vegetarian and plant based dishes, but their breakfast avocado toast is a shining beacon of light that should not be overlooked. Atop a thick slice of lightly toasted white bread is a rustic slice/smash of creamy avocado that melts in your mouth. Add to boot: ripe cherry tomatoes, an ample drizzle sweet-yet-slightly spicy Matcha-Wasabi Cream, and a sprinkle of fresh herbs. Open for breakfast daily (take out only) and Brunch Saturdays and Sundays, this Avo Toast is a must at the Westcliff location.
Avocado, s’il vous plait! This location in Fashion Island is always bustling with locals and tourists alike, but beyond the breads and bakery items, one item that stands alone is their avocado toast. A feast for the tastebuds: they take a slice of their freshly baked bread – add sliced avocado, fresh tomatoes, green onions, a blend of citrus and spices, sea salt, and a drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Add some hard boiled eggs and this toast goes to the next level; or opt for, as I did, the addition of smoked salmon – a match made in heaven.
Eggs on toast? Make that EGGS on Avocado Toast. You can’t beat the delicious simplicity of Haute Cakes’ take on this staple at this bustling café that has been a mainstay in Newport Beach since 1990. Sliced avocado, toasted sourdough, eggs to order; fried, poached, or scrambled eggs – your choice, and you can’t go wrong with this mix – a sprinkle of tomatoes, seasoned salt, and herbs round out the plate. Coupled with your choice of fresh fruit or their signature roasted potatoes, this dish is hard to beat.
Hello deliciousness and health wrapped up all into one bundle! The location of Jan’s Health Bar in Corona del Mar is new, but their roots in the OC aren’t. A definite must is their Multi Grain Toast with Avocado. Flaked with red pepper flakes, sea salt, and a lemon – lime citrus punch, you can’t beat this combination of crunchy toast with avocado anywhere.
