What to Look Forward to in August
Can you believe it’s almost August?! We’re nearing summer’s halfway point, but there’s still a lot to experience this season in Newport Beach. Aside from popular activities like boating, beachin’ and waterfront dining, we’ve rounded up five noteworthy Newport Beach events to add to your August calendar. From Sherman Library & Gardens‘ annual Summer Garden Party to the grand opening of the city’s newest seafood restaurant, Ocean 48 you’re in for a month of exciting new experiences!
Pickleball for Wishes Tournament
The annual Pickleball for Wishes Tournament is set to take place on Saturday, August 3 at the nationally recognized Tennis and Pickleball Club at Newport Beach. Participants are encouraged to bring friends or colleagues to enjoy games of pickleball while raising funds to grant wishes for local children with critical illnesses. Tournaments for advanced, intermediate and beginner players will follow a beginner’s clinic, ensuring all experience levels are welcome. After the tournament final, players and spectators will gather for the Celebration of Wishes Reception, featuring a meal, opportunity drawing, award ceremony inspiring speakers, music and more. Summer Garden Party at Sherman Library & Gardens
Set on 2.2 acres in Corona del Mar, Sherman Library & Gardens is a flourishing horticultural oasis that comes alive in the summertime. And this month, Sherman Library & Gardens’ Volunteer Association is bringing the bloom with a Summer Garden Party fundraiser on August 3 from 4-7 p.m. Guests of this event will enjoy a garden party hat contest, a delicious supper prepared by 608 Dalia, a silent auction and raffle and live music in the Central Garden!

VEA Summer Concert Series Featuring JT Harker
Looking for some live tunes this August? One of the city’s newest hotels, VEA Newport Beach, invites everyone to the third and final summer concert of 2024 scheduled for August 18 from 4-6 p.m. The event will feature California country music star JT Harker, along with food and drink specials and stunning ocean views from the Sunset Lawn. Annual Wine Walk at the Environmental Nature Center
If you love long walks with a glass of wine in hand, join the Environmental Nature Center for a Wine Walk on August 10 from 4-7 p.m.! Attendees will have the opportunity to stroll through the center, stop at wine-tasting stations along the trails, snack on small bites and enjoy live music! End your walk by the fire pit, where you can enjoy more live tunes while savoring a cup of Kean Coffee and dessert. The best part: Ticket sales will support environmental education in the local community!
Grand Opening of Ocean 48
Newport Beach’s culinary scene is thriving, and Fashion Island is at the heart of this gastronomic renaissance. For seafood enthusiasts, Ocean 48 is set to become the ultimate destination for sea-to-table cuisine.
